On 01/09/2026 just after 11:10 p.m., an on-duty Mooresville police officer was operating a patrol vehicle when it struck a pedestrian who was standing in the roadway. The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Morgan County Serious Crash Investigations Team has taken over the investigation, and the Mooresville Metropolitan Police Department is conducting its own internal review to determine whether the officer was operating within department procedures at the time of the collision.
