OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 01/12/2026, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s deputies responded to calls of a man with a handgun near 55th Street South and Hoover Road in Wichita. Deputies ordered the man to drop the weapon. He refused and allegedly later fired a shot that struck a patrol vehicle. Deputies returned fire, striking the man. He was taken to a hospital where he died. The Wichita Police Department is leading the investigation.
