City : Columbia
County : Richland
State : South Carolina
Agency : Richland County Sheriff's Department
Officer(s) : Not Disclosed
Cause of Death : Gunshot
Event : Killed by police during manhunt following vehicle pursuit
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/06/2026, Richland County Sheriff's Department deputies attempted to stop a silver Chevrolet sedan on Lorenzo Davis Road at approximately 1:30 p.m. because the vehicle had a suspended license plate. The driver continued driving away while deputies pursued. The pursuit ended when the Chevrolet crashed near the intersection of Leesburg Road and Harmon Road, in the 4800 block of Leesburg Road. Ja’Sean Fritz and three other people left the crashed vehicle and ran into a wooded area. Deputies established a search operation and K-9 teams began tracking them.
Deputies searching the crashed vehicle reported finding a rifle, ammunition, drugs and a modified handgun. Fritz was also wanted by authorities in Orangeburg County on murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and conspiracy charges connected with a 07/30/2026 shooting on Felder Street in Orangeburg.
Nearly two hours after the crash, deputies tracking the group through the woods encountered Fritz. According to Sheriff Leon Lott, Fritz fired at deputies and deputies returned fire, striking him. Fritz died from the gunshot wounds. Lott repeatedly stated during a subsequent press conference that Fritz fired first. However, when reporters asked to see the deputies' body-camera footage to corroborate the department's account, Lott declined to release or show the footage.
Three other people who had fled from the crashed vehicle were subsequently located and arrested. The Sheriff's Department released dash-camera footage showing the initial vehicle pursuit and a photograph of the crash, but as of 08/08/2026 had not publicly released the body-camera recordings of Fritz's fatal encounter. The names of the deputies who fired at Fritz have also not been publicly disclosed in the reporting located so far. The solicitor's office is expected to review the shooting and determine whether the deputies' use of deadly force was legally justified.

Matthew A. Norman
Age :55
Gender :Male
Race : White
Date : 08/06/2026
Location : Railroad Landing, St. Croix River
City : Not Disclosed
County : Chisago
State : Minnesota
Agency : Chisago County Sheriff's Office
Officer(s) : Not Disclosed
Cause of Death : Drowned
Event : Drowned duress during police pursuit
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
NARRATIVE:
On 08/06/2026, 55-year-old Matthew Norman of Rush City, Minnesota, drowned in the St. Croix River after Chisago County sheriff's deputies attempted to arrest him on an outstanding felony warrant and pursued him by vehicle to the river. His body was recovered downstream the following morning.
.
At approximately 5:56 p.m., Chisago County sheriff's deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle Norman was driving because he had an outstanding felony warrant in Chisago County. Norman drove away and deputies initiated a vehicle pursuit.
.
The pursuit continued to Railroad Landing on the St. Croix River. Norman drove down the boat ramp and drove his vehicle directly into the river. Deputies pursuing him saw Norman get out of the vehicle after it entered the water and begin swimming away from them.
.
Deputies eventually lost sight of Norman in the river. Multiple agencies launched an extensive search using ground and air resources, and the operation continued through the night.
.
Shortly after 9:00 a.m. on 08/07/2026, Chisago County Water Patrol deputies located Norman's body approximately one-eighth of a mile downstream from the location where his vehicle had entered the St. Croix River. Authorities subsequently publicly identified the dead man as Matthew Norman of Rush City.
.
Norman's death followed a continuous police encounter beginning with deputies attempting to take him into custody on the felony warrant, followed by a vehicle pursuit, Norman driving into the river, and his attempt to escape the pursuing deputies by swimming away. Although a vehicle pursuit directly preceded the death, Norman did not die from crash injuries; the fatal mechanism was drowning after he entered the St. Croix River.
.
OFFICER BACKGROUND:
The Chisago County Sheriff's Office did not publicly identify the deputy or deputies who attempted to stop Norman or pursued him to Railroad Landing.

Location : 1100 block of East Harmon Avenue, near University Center Drive
City : Las Vegas
County : Clark
State : Nevada
Agency : Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department
Officer(s) : Not Disclosed
Cause of Death : Gunshot
Event : Killed by police during armed-person call and gunfight
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/04/2026, at approximately 3:30 a.m., Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the 1100 block of East Harmon Avenue near University Center Drive after receiving reports of a man who appeared intoxicated and was waving a firearm. The man was later identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office as 21-year-old Angel Tywan Lucas Lindsey.
According to Sheriff Kevin McMahill, Lindsey was sitting on a curb when two officers arrived. Police said Lindsey immediately pulled out a handgun and opened fire at the officers. One of the officers, 29-year-old LVMPD Officer Blake McNair, was struck multiple times. McNair's partner returned fire, striking Lindsey.
McNair and Lindsey were both transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center. Lindsey died from his gunshot wounds. The Clark County Coroner's Office subsequently identified him and ruled his death a homicide caused by multiple gunshot wounds.
McNair also died at the hospital. He had served with LVMPD since 2023 and was assigned to the South Central Area Command. Before joining the department, McNair served in the United States Marine Corps. His death was the first fatal shooting of an on-duty LVMPD officer since 2009.
Police recovered a handgun at the scene. Although Lindsey was reportedly the subject of the original armed-person call, the publicly available reporting reviewed does not establish through toxicology that he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time; the intoxication description originated with the initial caller.
LVMPD has not yet publicly identified the officer who shot Lindsey in the sources provided and reviewed. The department said its Critical Incident Review Team and Force Investigation Team are investigating the encounter. Body-camera footage and a more detailed reconstruction of the shooting are expected to be released under LVMPD's critical-incident disclosure process.

The two officers who fired were placed on administrative leave. Their names have not been publicly disclosed in the reporting located to date. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is conducting the investigation. Chief Townsend said the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was not called because the sheriff's office was serving as the outside investigating agency.

Reggie Pederson
Age :66
Gender :Male
Race : Black
Date : 08/02/2026
Location : Airways Boulevard and Park Avenue
City : Memphis
County : Shelby
State : Tennessee
Agency : Tennessee Highway Patrol
Officer(s) : Not Disclosed
Cause of Death : Vehicle
Event : Bystander killed by police chase crash
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/02/2026, Reggie Pederson, 66, was killed in Memphis when a driver being pursued by a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper crashed into Pederson’s vehicle at the intersection of Airways Boulevard and Park Avenue. Pederson had no involvement in the police pursuit and was traveling independently when the pursuit entered the intersection.
The pursuit began after a Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper conducting traffic enforcement on Airways Boulevard clocked a vehicle traveling nearly 90 mph in a posted 40 mph zone. This excessive speed was the documented initiating reason for the attempted stop and subsequent pursuit. The trooper caught up with the vehicle near Airways Boulevard and Ketchum Road.
According to court records and the trooper’s account, the driver continued driving away while the trooper pursued. Police alleged that the driver traveled at speeds too fast for road conditions, crossed into lanes of oncoming traffic and drove through multiple red lights as the pursuit continued along Airways Boulevard.
The pursuit proceeded north along Airways toward Park Avenue, a major urban intersection surrounded by businesses, residential neighborhoods and regular cross traffic. According to court records, the pursued vehicle entered the intersection of Airways Boulevard and Park Avenue against a red traffic signal and crashed into Pederson’s vehicle. The collision killed Pederson.
.
A 6-year-old child was inside the pursued vehicle during the chase and crash. The child suffered a traumatic head injury and a severe tongue injury and was transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
The driver survived the crash and was hospitalized. Court records subsequently showed that he had been released on bond only weeks earlier following a separate July 2026 encounter involving Memphis police and Tennessee state troopers. On July 4, Memphis Police Department officers attempted a traffic stop and the driver allegedly drove away. Approximately 30 minutes later, Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers located him, pursued him and arrested him on an allegation of vehicle theft. He posted bond six days later.
The earlier pursuit is relevant to the circumstances surrounding Pederson’s death because the August 2 pursuit occurred while the driver remained on bond from that July case. Following the fatal August crash, he was held in the hospital's prison ward and a $250,000 bail was set.
Pederson was a Memphis photographer whose work documented musicians, artists, live performances and people throughout the city. He also worked professionally in facilities/project management. His photography had become familiar within Memphis' arts and music communities. Friends and fellow photographers remembered him as supportive of other photographers and particularly skilled at photographing people. Photographer Joel Rose said Pederson had a genuine love of people that was visible in his photographs, while photographer David Johnson described him as an encouraging presence in the local photography community.
Pederson's death occurred amid substantial scrutiny of Tennessee Highway Patrol's pursuit practices in Memphis. Investigative reporting earlier in 2026 examined 75 vehicle pursuits associated with the Memphis Safe Task Force during its first five weeks of operation. Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers conducted 66 of those pursuits, or 88 percent. Forty-three percent of the task force pursuits examined by reporters resulted in crashes.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol's written vehicle-pursuit policy has also become a significant transparency issue. The Institute for Public Service Reporting sought the policy under the Tennessee Public Records Act, but state officials declined to release it, asserting that the policy was exempt from public disclosure. This prevents the public from directly comparing a particular trooper's decision to initiate, continue or terminate a pursuit with THP's own written pursuit standards.
The records most important to determining the complete circumstances of Pederson's death include the identity of the initiating and pursuing trooper; THP dash-camera and body-camera recordings; the complete pursuit radio traffic; dispatch/CAD records; GPS and vehicle-speed data from the THP cruiser; the trooper's pursuit and incident reports; any supervisory pursuit authorization or monitoring records; any orders to continue or terminate the pursuit; crash reconstruction records; Tennessee Highway Patrol fatal-crash reports; intersection or traffic-camera video from Airways Boulevard and Park Avenue; nearby business surveillance video; 911 calls; and any post-pursuit administrative or internal review.
Those records are particularly important for establishing the exact pursuit duration and distance, the trooper's speed, the distance between the patrol vehicle and pursued vehicle at the time of the collision, whether additional THP units joined the pursuit, whether supervisors were monitoring it, whether the pursuit was ever ordered terminated or modified, whether emergency lights and siren were continuously activated, and what information concerning the presence of other motorists and the driver's increasingly dangerous conduct was communicated before the fatal collision.
The pursuing trooper's identity has not been publicly disclosed in the reporting located to date.

Deputies reported that a physical confrontation occurred after the man exited the vehicle. During that encounter, a deputy fired his weapon, striking him. Deputies immediately requested emergency medical assistance, but he died at the scene. No deputies or assisting Texas Department of Public Safety troopers were injured.
The Texas Rangers assumed responsibility for the investigation into the fatal shooting, which is standard procedure for officer-involved shootings in Texas. Authorities have not publicly described what occurred during the struggle, whether he was armed, or what actions prompted the deputy to fire. The deputy's identity has not been released.
The Freestone County Sheriff's Office has not disclosed the reason for the initial traffic stop or whether Green was wanted on any outstanding warrants. As of the latest reporting, the Texas Rangers' investigation remains ongoing, and no additional findings have been released.

Officer(s) : Kaden Pohl
Cause of Death : Vehicle
Event : Taxi driver killed in collision with police vehicle
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/01/2026, at approximately 1:10 a.m., Anchorage Police Department Officer Kaden Pohl was driving a marked patrol vehicle westbound while responding to a call for service. Pohl entered the intersection of 36th Avenue and A Street as 68-year-old Cemal Sadiku drove a taxicab northbound through the same intersection. The police vehicle and taxicab collided near the middle of the intersection with sufficient force that both vehicles caught fire.
Sadiku, who was driving the taxi, died at the scene. His front-seat passenger, 45-year-old William Phillips, also died. Three passengers seated in the rear of the taxi survived and were transported to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Pohl was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and was released by August 3.
Police Chief Sean Case said Pohl’s emergency lights were activated while he was responding to the call. Case said investigators still needed to determine whether the patrol vehicle’s siren was operating. APD has not publicly identified the nature or urgency of the call, Pohl’s speed, which vehicle had the traffic signal, or the precise sequence that placed both vehicles in the intersection. The department opened both a traffic investigation and an internal investigation into Pohl’s driving. The case number is 26-20211.
Pohl joined APD in December 2020. Approximately six weeks before Sadiku’s death, Pohl fatally shot 33-year-old Deandrea Robertson during a June 16, 2026 encounter inside the loss-prevention office at the Walmart on Old Seward Highway. Police had entered the confined room for a reported retail theft. During a struggle involving Robertson and three officers, Robertson produced a concealed handgun and fired. One bullet wounded Officer Trevor Amburn in the leg, and another struck Pohl’s ballistic plate. Pohl then fired and killed Robertson. Officer Tae Yoon suffered hearing damage and temporary vision impairment from the gunfire. Pohl was placed on four days of administrative leave under department policy and had returned to duty before the August 1 fatal crash. The Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions was reviewing that shooting when the traffic collision occurred.
Pohl was also named in a 2023 federal civil-rights lawsuit filed by Brenda Boudreau concerning a February 19, 2023 traffic stop. Boudreau alleged that officers broke her vehicle window, forcibly removed and handcuffed her, searched her and impounded her vehicle without lawful grounds. The claims against Pohl and the other officers were dismissed with prejudice in August 2025; the dismissal was not a finding that Pohl had committed misconduct.

The vehicles met near the middle of the intersection and both caught fire after the impact.
Forty-five-year-old William Phillips was riding in the front passenger seat of the taxi and died at the scene. Sadiku also died. Three passengers seated in the rear of the taxi survived and were transported to a hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. Pohl was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and was released by August 3.
Police Chief Sean Case said Pohl had activated the patrol vehicle’s emergency lights while traveling to the call. Case said investigators had not yet determined whether Pohl was using the siren. APD has not publicly disclosed the type or priority of call, Pohl’s speed, the traffic-light sequence or which driver had the right of way. Investigators are examining the vehicles, available electronic and roadway evidence and the circumstances under which Pohl entered the intersection. APD opened a traffic investigation and a separate internal investigation. The case number is 26-20211.
Pohl had served with APD since December 2020. On June 16, 2026, approximately six weeks before Phillips was killed, Pohl fatally shot 33-year-old Deandrea Robertson inside a confined loss-prevention office at the Walmart on Old Seward Highway. Officers had responded to a reported retail theft. During a struggle involving Robertson and three officers, Robertson drew a concealed handgun and fired. Officer Trevor Amburn was wounded in the leg, and another bullet struck the ballistic plate in Pohl’s vest. Pohl fired and killed Robertson. A third officer, Tae Yoon, suffered hearing damage and temporary vision impairment. Pohl was placed on four days of administrative leave and returned to duty while the Alaska Office of Special Prosecutions reviewed the shooting.
Pohl was additionally named as a defendant in a federal lawsuit arising from a February 19, 2023 APD traffic stop. Plaintiff Brenda Boudreau alleged that officers lacked lawful grounds for the stop, broke her vehicle window, forcibly removed and handcuffed her, searched her and impounded the vehicle. A federal court dismissed the claims against Pohl and the other officers with prejudice in August 2025. The case therefore documents a prior civil allegation involving Pohl but did not result in a judicial finding that he violated Boudreau’s rights.

Alex Charles
Age :30
Gender :Male
Race : Black
Date : 07/31/2026
Location : Fort Washington Park, 13551 Fort Washington Road
City : Fort Washington
County : Prince George
State : Maryland
Agency : Maryland-National Capital Park Police
Officer(s) : Corporal Anthony Delozier
Cause of Death : Gunshot
Event : Killed by police during armed disturbance call
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/31/2026, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Maryland-National Capital Park Police officers responded to Fort Washington Park after receiving reports of gunfire and a man walking near the Potomac River while armed with a handgun. Corporal Anthony Delozier encountered 30-year-old Alex Charles near the shoreline. During the encounter, Delozier fired his service weapon, striking Charles. Charles was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators reported that a handgun was recovered near his body. The Maryland Office of the Attorney General's Independent Investigations Division is leading the investigation into the fatal shooting.
The Attorney General's Office identified the involved officer as Corporal Anthony Delozier, a 15-year veteran of the Maryland-National Capital Park Police who previously served approximately 24 years with the Prince George's County Police Department. As required by agency policy, Delozier was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Court records show that while serving with the Prince George's County Police Department, Delozier was indicted in 2000 on charges including unreasonable force and conspiracy arising from the police canine attack on two homeless men who prosecutors alleged had already surrendered. According to prosecutors, Delozier asked a supervising sergeant whether the dog could "get a bite" before another officer released the canine. One man suffered serious bite injuries. Delozier was ultimately acquitted of the charges. Those prior allegations have received renewed attention following the fatal shooting of Alex Charles.
The Independent Investigations Division has not yet released body-camera footage or additional details describing the events immediately preceding the shooting. The investigation remains active.
Corporal Delozier has a history of prior police brutality incidents including:
- 1995 K-9 attack on two homeless men. Prosecutors alleged the men had already surrendered when Delozier asked a supervising officer whether the police dog could "take a bite." Another officer then released the dog, seriously injuring one of the men. Federal prosecutors alleged Delozier participated in a civil-rights violation and conspiracy.
- 2000 federal indictment. Delozier was indicted on federal civil-rights and conspiracy charges arising from that incident.
- 2001 trial outcome. He was acquitted on one charge at the first trial, the jury deadlocked on another, and after a retrial he was acquitted of the remaining conspiracy charge. He was never convicted.
- Despite the acquittal, the case became one of the better-known excessive-force controversies involving the Prince George's County Police Department's K-9 unit during a period when the department faced extensive federal scrutiny over police dog attacks.
Public statement by a family member:
Alex served in the Navy, graduated college from Virginia State University, and was a Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity member. He was gainfully employed and excited about the work he was doing in IT with government agencies.
Alex had just bought a home and was working to get things the way he wanted them. Alex was in love and hopeful about his future.

City : Chino Hills
County : San Bernardino
State : California
Agency : San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department
Officer(s) : Pending release
Cause of Death : Gunshot
Event : Killed by police during pursuit
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/29/2026, at approximately 10:14 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of gunfire and a person screaming for help in the 2100 block of Monteverde Drive in Chino Hills. Investigators determined that 67-year-old Zhengfeng Bo and his brother, Jianquan Bo, allegedly interrupted electrical service to the residence of 60-year-old Shukur Aikebaer in an apparent attempt to lure him outside. When Aikebaer came outside to inspect the electrical panel, he was shot and forced into the trunk of a Nissan Altima with Oregon license plates. Investigators are examining whether the power outage was deliberately staged as part of the kidnapping.
Deputies responding to the shooting observed the Nissan leaving the area at a high rate of speed and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle continued driving away, leading deputies on an approximately one- to two-mile pursuit before stopping in the 2400 block of Wandering Ridge Drive. At the time deputies initiated the stop, they were unaware that Aikebaer was inside the trunk.
After the vehicle stopped, Jianquan Bo exited and surrendered. Zhengfeng Bo exited separately but ignored deputies' commands. He walked to the rear of the vehicle, opened the trunk, and fired another shot into Aikebaer while deputies watched. Deputies immediately fired, striking Zhengfeng Bo. Deputies then opened the trunk, discovered Aikebaer suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and rendered aid until paramedics arrived. Zhengfeng Bo and Aikebaer were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators later confirmed that Zhengfeng Bo and Aikebaer had previously worked together. Business records obtained during the investigation show both men held roles in at least two limited liability companies. Court records also show Zhengfeng Bo was involved in civil litigation concerning ownership and control of an approximately $20 million Pasadena apartment complex. According to Bo's attorney, Aikebaer was not a party to those lawsuits but had acted as a "middleman" who introduced Bo to the individual with whom he was in the business dispute. Authorities have not identified a motive but are investigating whether the business relationship contributed to the kidnapping and homicide.
Detectives served a search warrant at the Irvine residence shared by Zhengfeng Bo and Jianquan Bo, recovering evidence related to the investigation. Jianquan Bo was arrested on murder and kidnapping charges and remains held without bail while the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department continues to investigate the case.

OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/29/2026, Sebastian Hamilton was riding as a passenger in a Hyundai Santa Fe when an Abington Police Department officer attempted to stop the vehicle after determining it displayed an expired registration. The driver continued driving away while police pursued. The SUV ran a red light on Washington Street, left the roadway, and struck a tree. Hamilton suffered critical injuries in the crash and was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries on 08/01/2026. Family members later disputed the characterization of the Hyundai as a stolen vehicle, stating it belonged to the mother of one of the passengers, who had allowed her daughter to use it. They stated the vehicle had been taken without permission by Barlow but had not been stolen in the sense initially reported by police. The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office continues to investigate the pursuit and crash.

Location : Washington Street

Cause of Death : Vehicle
Event : Driver killed by police chase crash
OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 07/29/2026 at approximately 7:47 a.m., an Abington Police Department officer observed a red 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe that had been reported stolen from Brockton at approximately 3:25 a.m. on 07/28/2026. The officer checked the SUV’s registration, confirmed that it had been reported stolen and attempted to stop it on Walnut Street. Seventeen-year-old Jonathan R. Barlow continued driving away while the officer pursued.
He drove from Walnut Street onto Centre Avenue and then Washington Street. Police Chief John Bonney said the Hyundai was traveling at a high rate of speed. The pursuit covered less than one mile and lasted several minutes. The pursuing officer reported the pursuit by radio, activated the police vehicle’s emergency lights and siren and continued behind the Hyundai toward Washington Street.
Surveillance video showed the Hyundai travel through a red traffic signal before leaving the roadway and striking a tree near 877 Washington Street shortly after passing Central Street. The police cruiser remained directly behind the Hyundai but did not collide with it. After the crash, the officer immediately requested multiple ambulances.
Jonathan R. Barlow was pinned inside the wrecked Hyundai and died at the scene. Four passengers between 14 and 17 years old were seriously injured. A female passenger was ejected from the SUV. The other passengers, two males and one female, sustained life-threatening injuries. Emergency personnel transported them to area hospitals, and several were subsequently transferred to Boston hospitals for continued treatment.
Chief Bonney said investigators had not established that Hamilton stole the Hyundai and confirmed only that he was driving it after it had been reported stolen. Police had not determined where the teenagers were going or how they obtained the vehicle.
The pursuing officer had worked for the Abington Police Department for less than two years. The department placed him on administrative leave following the fatal pursuit. Bonney characterized the leave as an investigative and welfare measure rather than disciplinary action. The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, Abington Police Department and Massachusetts State Police are investigating the pursuit, the officer’s actions and the fatal crash.
