On 01/11/2026 in Greenville, South Carolina, a Greenville Police officer was ambushed while sitting in his patrol vehicle at the Greenville County Law Enforcement Center. The officer was shot multiple times and taken to a hospital, where he was treated and later released. Law enforcement identified himas  42-year-old David William Lane of Greenville. A brief pursuit followed, and officers exchanged gunfire with Lane near Independence Boulevard and Ponders Ray Lane, resulting in Lane’s death at the scene. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating.
