OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/12/2026, San Angelo Police Department officers responded to a reported domestic violence incident involving a firearm near Lamar Elementary School. Police stated Eric Shane Riddle, 43, threatened to kill his wife and himself inside a residence near Shady Hill Drive and Canyon Rim Drive. Officers removed the wife and other individuals from the home and established a perimeter. SAPD requested assistance from the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety, and a regional tactical unit responded. During the hours-long standoff, officers heard gunshots from inside the residence. After entry, officers located Riddle with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported from the residence and pronounced deceased. Authorities reported the death was a suicide that occurred while officers were attempting to take him into custody.
