On 01/12/2026, law enforcement responded to a domestic-violence situation involving a firearm near Lamar Elementary School, which escalated into an armed standoff with a 43-year-old man. Officers from the San Angelo Police Department, Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office, and Department of Public Safety surrounded a residence at Shady Hill Drive and Canyon Rim Drive after reports that the man had threatened to kill his wife and then himself. The wife and at least two older individuals were safely removed from the home earlier in the incident. A regional tactical unit joined SAPD to provide additional manpower . Hours into the standoff, police heard gunshots from inside the residence. The man was later brought out on a stretcher and was pronounced deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
