On 01/12/2026, Stokes County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shooting on Poplar Spring Road in Stokes County. A woman known to Thomas Mark Sharpe Jr., 50, was shot and transported to a hospital in critical condition. Investigators identified Sharpe as the shooter and initiated a multi-agency manhunt. Deputies issued alerts for Sharpe and the vehicle he was believed to be driving and stated he had access to firearms.
On 01/13/2026, law enforcement located Sharpe during efforts to take him into custody. During that encounter, Sharpe died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while officers were present.
