On 01/14/2026, Gainesville Police Department officers responded to reports of shots fired at Imeca Lumber & Hardware on East University Avenue. Officers discovered that Justin Dewayne Long, 31, had fatally shot 23-year-old Eduardo Pardo Rodriguez inside the business before fleeing the scene. As officers attempted to stop Long, he opened fire on them, wounding two officers. Officers returned fire, striking Long. He was transported to a hospital, where he died from his injuries. The two injured officers were treated and released. The incident is under investigation by law enforcement agencies.
