OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 01/14/2026, members of the Memphis Safe Task Force attempted to stop Kevyon Kevonte Jackson in the 3100 block of Madewell in the Frayser area. Jackson continued driving and officers escalated a pursuit that traveled approximately five miles into the Raleigh area. The pursuit ended at James Road and Warford Street when Jackson’s vehicle collided with a box truck. Both vehicles overturned during the crash. Jackson died from injuries sustained in the collision. Authorities stated the task force was attempting to stop Jackson in connection with alleged outstanding warrants. Family members disputed that claim and provided documentation showing prior aggravated assault charges had been expunged. A review of the Shelby County warrant database did not show an active warrant at the time. Reporting indicates Jackson was on the phone with a relative during the pursuit, and the call disconnected at the time of the crash. Law enforcement has not released officer names. The circumstances surrounding the basis for the stop and the decision to pursue have drawn public scrutiny.
