On 01/14/2026, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies located a vehicle reported stolen at a Circle K gas station in Tempe. Deputies attempted to contact the male driver, who remained inside the vehicle and refused to exit. Deputies established a perimeter and continued negotiations during the standoff. Authorities stated the man was inside the vehicle during the confrontation and shot himself while deputies were present. He was pronounced dead at the location.
