On 01/15/2026, Chamblee police officers responded to a reported shoplifting incident at a Walmart on Chamblee Tucker Road. After an altercation with police inside the store, the man, identified as 29-year-old Travis Damonta Harris, fled on foot toward a nearby apartment complex. Officers pursued him, and during the encounter, Harris reportedly pulled out a firearm. Police fired at Harris, striking him. He died on the street. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is handling the investigation and the officers involved are on administrative leave.
