On 01/04/2026, Philadelphia Police Department officers responded to the 4000 block of Hellerman Street in the Mayfair and Tacony area after reports of a person firing a gun into the ground outside a residence. Police said officers encountered a man who appeared disoriented. Officers attempted to detain him. Police reported the man resisted and officers restrained him before placing him in the rear of a patrol vehicle. While inside the vehicle, the man became unresponsive. Officers requested emergency medical services. Medics transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities stated a firearm was recovered at the location.
