OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/16/2026, Tuolumne County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to stop a 2000 Lexus SUV near Mono Way and Hillsdale Drive in East Sonora while investigating a possible theft from a business. The driver did not stop. Police chased him through the area in a high-speed pursuit. The chase ended late Thursday night when the vehicle crashed. The driver, an Angels Camp man, died as a result of the crash. The Sheriff’s Office confirmed the death in a news release issued Friday.
