On 01/13/2026, Longwood Police Department officers responded to a reported mental health crisis at the Circle K located at 1001 West State Road 434 after a store clerk called about a man expressing suicidal thoughts. Officers encountered the man inside the store and attempted verbal communication. Police stated the man kept his hands near his waistband and did not follow commands to show his hands. An officer fired multiple shots. Officers transported the man to a hospital, where he later died following surgery. Law enforcement later confirmed no weapon was found and the man was unarmed.
