OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/17/2026, a driver was killed after police in an unmarked Howard County Police Department vehicle attempted a traffic stop on Route 32 near Broken Land Parkway during the early morning hours. The driver did not stop. Police escalated a chase involving the unmarked vehicle. Shortly afterward, the vehicle crashed on an eastbound ramp near Broken Land Parkway, overturned, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not publicly stated the reason for the attempted traffic stop and have not released the identity of the driver.
