On 01/18/2026, Watertown Police Department officers responded to a domestic incident on South Rutland Street. Police located a man inside a vehicle and established a perimeter. Officers ordered him to exit and attempted to communicate with him during the standoff. Police said the man had a firearm while inside the vehicle. During the encounter, the man shot himself. Officers entered the vehicle after the gunshot and confirmed he had sustained a self-inflicted wound. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Police stated there was no ongoing threat to the public. Authorities have not released the individual’s name. Officials have not announced whether body camera footage will be released.
