On 01/18/2026, Milagros Ortiz, 92, was riding home from her weekly Saturday night bingo outing when an Orlando Police Department patrol vehicle entered the intersection at South Semoran Boulevard and Hoffner Avenue and struck the vehicle she was in. Reporting and an initial crash report described the police vehicle as stopped at a red light before moving into the intersection and colliding with the driver side of the other vehicle, with the police vehicle listed as at fault for failing to yield right of way. Ortiz was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where she died on 01/19/2026 surrounded by family. Relatives described her as the matriarch of a large family and said she stayed active and socially engaged, loved music, and loved to dance, with her energy and late Saturday nights part of why she was described in coverage as a dancing grandma.
