On 07/04/2026 at approximately 8:30 a.m., a Greenville County Sheriff’s Office deputy saw a Hyundai Sonata driven by James Noah Moffitt speeding near Lily Street and Lora Lane. The Hyundai was traveling in the opposite direction, and the deputy turned around to initiate a traffic stop. Moffitt continued driving before the deputy could catch up to him.
Moffitt crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a southbound Ford F-150 driven by James Madison Garrett, 54, of Greenville. Emergency personnel transported Garrett to Prisma Health Greenville Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries.

On 07/01/2026, 19-year-old Ibrahim “Abe” Abousway was killed when a Houston Police Department patrol vehicle struck him after he exited a crashed Toyota Camry at the end of a high-speed police pursuit on Highway 6 in Harris County, Texas. Abousway survived the Camry's initial crash and was outside the vehicle when he was struck by police.

Houston police said officers located the reported stolen Camry at approximately 3:30 a.m. in the 14800 block of Parkshire Drive and observed three masked people enter it. When officers attempted to stop the Camry, police alleged driver Steven Andrew Molina, 21, fled. Court records later cited in news reports said Molina drove as fast as approximately 120 mph. On 06/28/2026 at approximately 3:20 p.m., Springfield Police Department officers responded to 3430 Peoria Road in the Northbrook Mobile Home Park after a shooting.
