OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/21/2026 at approximately 12:35 p.m., Aurora Police Department officers responded to a call reporting a dispute in a multi-unit apartment complex on the 300 block of South Broadway near North Avenue. When officers arrived, they located an adult male who was barricaded inside a residential building and armed with a knife. Officers engaged the man and gave verbal commands for him to disarm and comply. During the encounter, officers discharged their firearms after the man displayed the knife and posed an immediate threat. The man sustained at least one gunshot wound. Officers rendered emergency aid and paramedics transported him to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. In accordance with department protocols, responding officers were evaluated at a local hospital. The Fox Valley Major Crimes Task Force is leading the investigation into the officer actions, and the Kane County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy. Police confirmed there was no ongoing public threat following the incident.
