On 01/21/2026, Elyria Police Department officers responded to an aggravated armed robbery outside an AT&T store near West River Road North in Elyria, Ohio, involving a Brink’s armored truck and the alleged forced confinement of its driver. Officers identified a vehicle and initiated a pursuit that reached speeds over 100 miles per hour and extended into North Olmsted. At the intersection of Columbia Road and Brookpark Road, officers deployed stop sticks, ending the pursuit. The man exited the vehicle and ran to a nearby apartment complex on Clareshire Drive, where he forced an adult female and her four children into her apartment at gunpoint. Officers shot him. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation has been called to investigate.
