OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On January 20, 2026, Wichita Police Department officers responded just after 1:00 a.m. to a disturbance call at an apartment complex in the 2300 block of North Woodlawn Avenue. Officers knocked on the apartment door and identified themselves. According to police, a man inside threatened to retrieve a gun and the officers withdrew from the doorway. The man then exited the apartment with a firearm and pointed it at officers. Officers discharged their weapons, striking the man. He was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. A second individual present in the apartment was taken into custody. The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation into the officer-involved shooting. Deaundre Daevon Hill was later identified as the man killed.
