On 01/20/2026, Wichita Police Department officers shot and killed a man at an apartment complex in northeast Wichita after responding to a disturbance call. Police reported that officers knocked on an apartment door and identified themselves, and the man inside stated multiple times that he was going to retrieve a gun. Officers moved to a defensive position. The man later exited the apartment holding a firearm, and police opened fire. He was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the investigation into the police shooting.
