OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On January 20, 2026, Ontario Police Department officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Interstate 10 after observing criminal activity. The driver did not stop and a pursuit ensued eastbound on I-10. During the chase, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which left the roadway and collided with a concrete barrier. The driver was extricated from the vehicle and later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Law enforcement vehicles were not reported to have struck the driver; the fatal injuries resulted from the crash during the pursuit. The California Highway Patrol and San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department assisted at the scene and are reviewing the circumstances of the pursuit and collision.
