OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/21/2026, law enforcement officers from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and supporting agencies responded to a domestic call in the 800 block of Hay Meadow Drive in the Sims Place neighborhood of Augusta, Georgia. A person inside the residence barricaded himself. Negotiators communicated with the person for approximately one hour. Officers then heard a single gunshot from inside the home. Officers entered and located the person with a gunshot wound that appeared self-inflicted. Richmond County Coroner’s Office identified him as Rafael Moreno, 35, and he was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
