OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/22/2026 at approximately 8:40 p.m., detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Major Crimes Bureau were conducting a surveillance operation in the parking lot of a Michael’s arts and crafts store at The Fallbrook Center in West Hills, California. Deputies observed a man approach a woman in the parking lot and saw him armed with a semi-automatic handgun. Detectives exited their vehicle and attempted to intervene as the man was committing an armed robbery. Deputies discharged their service weapons, striking the man. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. A semi-automatic handgun with an extended magazine was recovered by law enforcement. A second individual fled the area during the incident and was taken into custody in a separate vehicle pursuit in Agoura Hills. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the shooting under department protocols. No deputies were reported injured. Local witnesses reported multiple shots fired and bullet damage to the storefront windows.
