On 01/22/2026, deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were conducting a surveillance operation in the parking lot of a Michaels store in the Fallbrook Center in West Hills when they encountered a man who allegedly approached and attempted to rob a woman while armed with a semi-automatic handgun. Deputies opened fire during the encounter, killing Brandon Goytia. The alleged robbery victim was not injured. A woman left the shooting site. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident.
