On 01/23/2026, officers from the Miami Gardens Police Department responded to reports of a man armed with a firearm in the backyard of a residence in the area of Northwest 22nd Avenue near 186th Street in Miami Gardens, Florida. When officers arrived at the location, they encountered the armed man in the backyard. Officers ordered him to drop the weapon and attempted to de-escalate the situation. The man did not comply with commands and continued to hold the firearm. Officers discharged their service weapons, striking the man. Medics transported him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Miami-Dade Police Department and Internal Affairs units are conducting an investigation into the shooting.
