OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 01/18/2026 at about 1:17 a.m., Cheyenne Police Department officers were dispatched to a report of a suspicious vehicle that had struck a guardrail near West 9th Street and Deming Drive. Officers found the truck off the roadway and began searching the area for the driver. They located 22-year-old Aiden Hall running nearby and determined he was the owner. Hall showed signs of intoxication and admitted to consuming alcohol. Officers removed a pocketknife from his front pocket before handcuffing him and placing him in the back of a patrol vehicle as they prepared to conduct a DUI investigation. While Hall was secured in the vehicle and officers briefly stepped away, he was able to move his handcuffed hands from behind to in front of his body, retrieve a concealed firearm from his pants, and fatally shoot himself. Officers administered first aid until medical personnel arrived, but Hall was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cheyenne Police Department later released that it had conducted a comprehensive internal investigation, identified a policy violation related to the search and transport procedures, and updated training and policies on handling individuals in custody. Hall’s family described him as a kind young man who loved learning and was training to be an electrician.
