OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/22/2026, a driver attempting to evade U.S. Border Patrol agents crashed head-on with another vehicle on Interstate 19 northbound near kilometer 11 in Nogales. Multiple agencies responded to the scene. Two people in the fleeing vehicle died in the crash and a third was seriously injured; another motorist in the other vehicle was also seriously injured. The driver who fled on foot was arrested near the crash scene and treated for non-life-threatening injuries before being booked into the Santa Cruz County jail. The Arizona Department of Public Safety and other agencies are continuing to investigate the fatal collision.
