OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/23/2026 at approximately 1:52 p.m., officers from the Eugene Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team responded to a call concerning an armed man in the parking lot of the St. Vincent de Paul facility at 2890 Chad Drive in Eugene, Oregon. Police made verbal contact with the man and engaged in negotiation for de-escalation. The man had a handgun, made suicidal statements to officers, and was visibly armed during the encounter. Despite ongoing negotiation efforts, at approximately 2:11 p.m. the man fired a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers provided emergency medical aid and summoned Eugene Springfield Fire medics. The man was transported to a hospital where he was later declared deceased. Police confirmed that no other individuals were directly involved in the incident and that the scene was secured. Officers also communicated with nearby school and businesses to lock down and restrict access while the response was active and traffic on Chad Drive was temporarily shut down. Eugene Police are continuing any required follow-up and review under department protocol.
