OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/23/2026, Eugene Police Department officers from the Crisis Negotiation Team responded to reports of an armed man who was making suicidal statements and holding a handgun in the St. Vincent de Paul parking lot on Chad Drive in Eugene, Oregon. Officers made contact and attempted to negotiate with the man from cover. At approximately 2:11 p.m., the man shot himself. Officers provided emergency medical aid and called Eugene Springfield Fire medics, who transported him to a hospital where he later died from his self-inflicted gunshot wound. Eugene PD notified nearby Eugene Christian School and a business to go on lockout during the incident and shut down westbound traffic on Chad Drive until the scene was secured. Authorities confirmed no one else was involved in the incident.
