On 01/25/2026, East Point Police Department officers responded to reports of an armed robbery in East Point, Georgia. Police located the vehicle believed to be involved and chased the driver through the city. During the pursuit, police said the driver violently carjacked another vehicle, causing a crash. After the crash, officers surrounded the vehicle. Under police pressure during the active pursuit and standoff, the man shot himself. He was pronounced dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities recovered a firearm. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the incident.
