On 01/26/2026, Sweetwater Police Department officers attempted to stop a stolen truck reported out of Georgia in Sweetwater, Tennessee. Police briefly chased the truck after the driver did not stop. During the chase, the truck crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a van. Two people inside the van were killed in the crash. The driver of the stolen truck survived and was taken into custody. Authorities stated the chase was short in duration. The Tennessee District Attorney’s Office and the Tennessee Highway Patrol are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the police chase and fatal crash.
