Event : Driver killed by police chase crash

OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/25/2026, the Bakersfield Police Department located a reported stolen vehicle in Bakersfield, California and attempted to stop it. The driver did not stop and a pursuit was initiated. Police allegedly called off the chase but shortly thereafter on Highway 178 near the Baker Street overpass, the stolen vehicle struck a guardrail and overturned. All three juveniles inside the vehicle were ejected. One of the juveniles, the driver, died at the scene. Two other juveniles were taken to Kern Medical with severe injuries. The California Highway Patrol is assisting with the crash investigation in accordance with protocol. The identities of the people involved have not been released.
