On 01/27/2026, deputies with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported domestic-related shooting at a home in the Summerport neighborhood of Windermere. Upon arrival, they found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound; she was transported to a local hospital and later reported in stable condition. Law enforcement established a perimeter and attempted to contact the suspect inside the residence for several hours. After deputies gained entry, they discovered 67-year-old Richard Stoner deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The incident prompted nearby Keene’s Crossing Elementary School to be placed on secure hold during the police response. Stoner was identified by the sheriff’s office as the person involved in the shooting and subsequent standoff.
