OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/26/2026, Phoenix police responded to a 911 call reporting gunfire inside a home in west Phoenix. Police arrived at the residence and an officer fired a weapon through a doorway into the home. Officers then entered and found two men with gunshot wounds. Christian Diaz Rendon was pronounced dead at the scene. A second man was transported to a hospital with non life threatening injuries, and a third man was detained and taken to a hospital for injuries not caused by gunfire. Family members later stated that Diaz Rendon had called 911 seeking help and was attempting to restrain another individual inside the home. Relatives disputed police accounts and said officers shot the wrong person. The Arizona Department of Public Safety assumed control of the investigation.
