OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 01/26/2026, Phoenix Police Department officers responded around 6:19 p.m. to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire at a residence near 75th Avenue and Lower Buckeye Road in west Phoenix. Callers reported a man firing into a home where children were present. Officers arrived and approached the open front doorway while people inside shouted that someone had been shooting. Officers gave commands and moved toward the entry. An officer fired one round into the doorway. After securing the home, police located two men who had been shot. Christian Diaz Rendon, 36, died from a gunshot wound. Another man sustained non-life-threatening gunshot injuries and was transported to a hospital. Police later confirmed that Diaz Rendon was not the original shooter. Reporting states he had confronted and disarmed the armed individual before police arrived. Phoenix Police Chief publicly acknowledged that Diaz Rendon was not the intended suspect. The department released body-worn camera footage and 911 audio in early February 2026. Diaz Rendon’s family filed a 25 million dollar notice of claim against the City of Phoenix alleging wrongful death.
