On 12/20/2025, Springfield police officers responded to the 1100 block of Worcester Street after a 911 call reported a man armed with a knife and exhibiting erratic behavior. Officers encountered Dennis Girard, who was armed with a knife during the encounter. An officer discharged a service weapon, striking Girard. Girard was pronounced dead at the scene.
