On 02/25/2026, police officers in Bala Cynwyd observed Francis Connell Collier, a former Morton Borough police officer wanted on child rape and related charges, as he was getting into his vehicle near Old Lancaster Road and Edge Hill Road. On 02/20/2026, Hutchinson Police responded to a shooting in the 800 block of West 4th Avenue in Reno County and found 37-year-old Lacy D. Nelson with multiple gunshot wounds. She later died at a hospital. Police identified Curtis E. Richardson, 49, in connection with the shooting and issued a statewide alert. The following morning, Pratt County Sheriff’s deputies located a vehicle linked to Richardson traveling on K-61 Highway. A deputy attempted a traffic stop. Richardson did not stop. Police escalated a vehicle pursuit. The vehicle left the roadway and became stuck in a field near NE 30th Avenue and NE 20th Street. Law enforcement surrounded the vehicle and deployed a Special Response Team. Officers gave commands and used less-lethal measures while attempting to take Richardson into custody. Richardson remained inside the vehicle and shot himself during the standoff. EMS transported him to a hospital, where he died.

On 02/19/2026 shortly after midnight, a Hahira Police Department officer stopped a Nissan on the east shoulder of Interstate 75 in Lowndes County and remained inside a marked patrol car with emergency lights activated during the traffic stop. A northbound Chevrolet Camaro drifted out of its lane and drove onto the shoulder, striking the rear of the patrol vehicle at high speed. The impact pushed the patrol car into the stopped Nissan and forced all three vehicles off the roadway. The Camaro driver suffered catastrophic crash injuries and was transported to South Georgia Medical Center where they died. The collision also killed the officer seated in the patrol vehicle. Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the three-vehicle crash on the interstate shoulder during the active police traffic stop.
