On 04/08/2026, Bradley Police Department officers responded to a wellbeing check in the 600 block of Jonette Avenue. Officers encountered Jose Orozco, who had a bladed weapon. Officers gave commands for him to stop. He did not comply and moved toward officers. Officers opened fire, striking him. He was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Illinois State Police are conducting an investigation, and the case will be reviewed by the Kankakee County State’s Attorney.

On 04/08/2026, Banks County Sheriff’s Office deputies identified a vehicle connected to a BOLO from Jackson County and attempted a traffic stop near Exit 149 on Interstate 85 in Commerce. The driver did not stop and deputies chased the vehicle on the interstate. Deputies performed a PIT maneuver and stopped the vehicle. After the vehicle stopped, the driver fired a gun at deputies. Deputies returned fire, striking him. He died from his injuries. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is conducting an independent investigation.

The incident occurred during an active mental health crisis following his own call for help.
