On 01/28/2025, San Diego police officers were in the area of the Santa Fe Depot in downtown San Diego when gunfire was reported near the train platforms. A 16-year-old boy, identified by the San Diego County Medical Examiner as Konoa Wilson, was running from gunshots being fired by another person at the station and emerged onto Kettner Boulevard. Officer Daniel Gold II encountered Wilson as he ran from the gunfire. Officer Gold discharged a duty weapon, striking Wilson twice in the back. Wilson was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The San Diego City Council approved a $30 million settlement with Wilson’s family related to the shooting.
