On 02/01/2026, police responded to a residence on Sharpsburg Drive in Independence, Kentucky, after receiving reports that a man was experiencing a mental health crisis and making statements about harming himself. Officers from multiple agencies arrived and attempted to make contact with 62-year-old David Works inside the home. Works later came outside holding a firearm. Police opened fire, striking him.
