On 01/30/2026 at approximately 9:20 a.m., deputies with the York County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home on Pine Ridge Court in Fort Mill after a call reported a person unconscious and not breathing. When deputies arrived, Allan Josue Topete-Guevara, 22, was conscious and found inside the residence armed with a knife. Police said he retreated into a room and barricaded himself with the knife. Deputies instructed him to drop the knife and exit; when he opened the door still holding the knife and charged toward a deputy, the deputy fired their service weapon, fatally striking Topete-Guevara. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) was requested to investigate the officer-involved shooting, and the involved deputy was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. No deputy injuries were reported in media coverage.
