On 02/10/2026, a 61 year old man died after being shot by a Broadway Police officer at the 7-Eleven on West Lee Street in Broadway shortly after 12:30 p.m. Police reported receiving calls that the man was threatening people inside the store with a knife. An officer evacuated patrons and confronted him near the restroom area, where authorities stated he approached an officer and deadly force was used. The man suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Virginia State Police assumed responsibility for the investigation through the Officer Involved Critical Incident Response Team and the involved officer was placed on administrative leave.
