OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/10/2026, Carthage Police encountered a male individual reported to have left a halfway house and located him near the Cumberland River wearing minimal clothing and appearing impaired. Officers approached to check on him and he resisted and continued moving away on foot before entering the river. Police attempted to coax him back to shore but he swam away, submerged, and did not resurface. A multi-agency search using drones, sonar, and dive teams located and recovered his body in about 15 feet of water near the boat ramp later that afternoon. Authorities have not released his identity or additional background details, and the incident remains under investigation.
