OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/12/2026, Jefferson County deputies responded to reports of gunfire at a medical office on Ellingwood Trail and entered the building after observing damage from shotgun blasts. Deputies located Lance Black, 62, inside armed with a shotgun after he fired multiple rounds into equipment, doors, and walls of the clinic where he had previously been a patient. Deputies moved to contain and de-escalate the situation while clearing surrounding businesses. During the encounter, Black shot himself and died at the scene. No other individuals were injured. Investigators reported he discharged roughly nineteen rounds inside the facility before his death and stated he acted alone.
