OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On the afternoon of 01/15/2026, detectives with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office attempted to serve an arrest warrant on a 55-year-old man at his home on the 3200 block of Carrigan Road in Fort Gratiot Township for criminal sexual conduct charges. As deputies approached the residence just before 12:30 p.m., they heard a single gunshot from inside. Officers entered the home and found the man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound; life-saving measures were attempted but he was pronounced dead at the scene. While searching the home, deputies discovered an object that appeared to be an explosive device, prompting evacuation of nearby residences and the call-out of the Michigan State Police Bomb Squad, which later determined the object was a realistic prop and not explosive. The man was the only person at the residence, and no deputies or civilians were injured during the incident. The Michigan State Police is assisting with the investigation.
