OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/14/2026, Fort Lauderdale Police Department officers and fire rescue personnel responded around 12:30 p.m. to a reported disturbance near Chateau Park Drive in the Lauderdale Manors area. Witness video showed two vehicles parked along the street and an argument occurring shortly before police arrival. During the response, Luis Felipe Londono Ospina, who police said was not involved in the original disturbance, approached officers and discharged a firearm. Three officers opened fire, striking him. Investigators documented shell casings and bullet damage to a nearby vehicle as evidence markers were placed throughout the roadway. Ospina was transported to a hospital where he died from his injuries. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement assumed the investigation, and the officers were placed on administrative leave in accordance with policy.
