OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/05/2026, a South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper attempted to stop a 2012 Jeep Liberty for lacking license plates, and the driver did not pull over, prompting a pursuit. While traveling through Rapid City, the pursuit led through a stop sign at North Cherry Avenue and East North Street and the vehicle collided with an eastbound Ford F-350. Four occupants of the Jeep were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. A 22-year-old female passenger sustained critical injuries in the crash and died from those injuries on 02/12/2026. The Ford driver sustained minor injuries and was also transported to a hospital. The Highway Patrol is investigating the crash and charges are pending against occupants of the Jeep.
