On 02/15/2026, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department deputies attempted to stop a vehicle in St. Clair County. The driver continued driving and deputies escalated a pursuit. The chase ended when the vehicle stopped along a rural roadway. Deputies approached and found the male driver suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the vehicle. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward. Authorities reported no officers fired their weapons. The Illinois State Police are investigating the incident.
