OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 02/14/2026, East St. Louis police attempted a traffic stop around 2:28 a.m. near 47th Street and State Street. The driver continued driving and struck a raised concrete median, disabling the vehicle at 25th Street and St. Clair Avenue. Officers approached the stopped vehicle and found the driver deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the car following the pursuit and crash. Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 6 was requested to handle the case and began processing evidence and interviews while the identity and additional details remained unreleased.
